Climate action cannot wait until 2050 for changes. That is why we have set aggressive targets along the way. We set a goal of reducing our Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 50% by 2030 - a target approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) as consistent with reductions required to keep warming to 1.5°C, the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement. We’ve also committed to purchasing 75% of our electricity from renewables by 2030 and 100% by 2040.
Operational GHG emissions are only part of the story. The largest parts of Dell Technologies’ carbon footprint occur upstream in our supply chain and downstream as our customers use our products. So we are partnering with our direct material suppliers to meet a greenhouse gas emissions reduction target of 60% per unit revenue by 2030. This meet the SBTi’s criteria for ambitious value chain goals, meaning it is in line with current best practice. We are also in the process of setting new product-related goals that will build on our efforts to reduce the energy intensity of our entire product portfolio by 80% (2011-2020).
By 2030, for every product a customer buys, we will reuse or recycle an equivalent product. 100% of our packaging will be made from recycled or renewable material. More than half of our product content will be made from recycled or renewable material.
